Community Blood Drive Saves Lives and Supports Community Food Program - 03/08/2018

The Milford, Nebraska Public Schools were the recipients of a $1,500 donation as a joint effort earned by Southeast Community College (SCC) and Milford Kiwanis who hosted Nebraska Community Blood Bank (NCBB) Hometown Heroes blood drives during the 2017 summer months.

The NCBB Hometown Heroes program takes place each year from Memorial Day to Labor Day and is an opportunity for communities outside of Lincoln and Omaha to help save lives and enrich their community. Money is allocated from NCBB to blood drive partners when they reach their blood drive collection goals.

Wattnem receives "The Gift of Kiwanis" Gold Level Award - 03/07/2018

Congratulations to Kiwanis Membership Director Gary Wattnem on receiving The Gift of Kiwanis Gold Level Award. This award is given to members who have sponsored at least 10 new members in the past five years. The River City Morning Kiwanis Club is now more than 70 members strong, thanks in part to a new satellite club that is growing in Clear Lake.

Ames Golden K recently reached a new milestone in club membership when well-known Ames community member Gerri Bugg was inducted as its 100th member.  Pictured left to right is Gerri, Golden K President Bob Sperry and Larry Trede, Golden K Secretary.

Ames Golden K Donates to Miracle League - 02/28/2018

Ames Golden K Kiwanis along with other Kiwanis Clubs in Story, Boone and Greene counties has pledged $50,000 towards the estimated cost of $1.5 million for construction of the All-inclusive Playground and Miracle League Park at Inis Grove Park in Ames.  Ames Golden K has pledged to raise $20,000  of the overall Kiwanis goal.  The fund-raising program began in November,2017. The Ames Foundation is the primary fund-raising organization.

K-Kids Soup Supper Supports Garuna Kids & Eliminate - 02/24/2018

Helping Hands Kiwanis assisted their K-Kids and Builders Club at St. John School at their Annual Soup Supper during K-Kids Week on February 21. The event was a fund raising activity for two purposes. The kids chose to earmark part of their proceeds for the Garuna Kids and also for the Eliminate Project.

The Garuna Kids child-scholarship ministry and the Garuna Schools ministry are vital tools in reaching the children of Southeast Asia with the grace, mercy and compassion (garuna) of Christ. Other funds raised will help the Helping Hands Kiwanis meet their Eliminate Model Club commitment of $21,000 to Eliminate Maternal & Neonatal Tetanus.

Backpack Service Project - 02/23/2018

A monthly service project of Cornhusker Kiwanis is preparing and delivering food "backpacks" for the Lincoln Food Bank. Nearly 50 backpacks are delivered weekly at Belmont Elementary School.

Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Kits to Fayette County - 02/21/2018

All of the first responder squads in Fayette County received training on Pediatric Trauma kits that were donated by Kiwanis.  Readlyn in Bremer county received a kit in addition.   Marion Metro Kiwanis club supplied all of the kits that were donated.  Assistance is needed to help the unprotected kids around Iowa, so take a look and check out the Pediatric Trauma Kit program.  There are 89 kits to donate yet!

Cornhusker Kiwanis has again begun its signature project of reading books to pre-school children. The club will distribute over 800 books to Lincoln school children.

A New K-Kids Group May Be Forming Soon! - 02/01/2018

Lincoln Northeast Kiwanis has hosted the first introductory meeting of K-Kids at Messiah Lutheran School in Lincoln!  Twelve prospective members and several parents attended the meeting. Kiwanis members went through an overview of Kiwanis and K-Kids, talked about service projects, fundraisers, organizational structure and charter banquets!  Northeast Kiwanis is excited to see everyone next Monday at the next planning meeting as this is a group of great future leaders. Thanks to Bob Marshall for all of his work in helping organize such an event and process.

Omaha Northwest Kiwanis Donates Blankets - 02/01/2018

The new Omaha Northwest Metro Kiwanis has conducted one of it's first service projects for Project Linus.  The club made 10 blankets to donate to the cause.  Project Linus is a non-profit organization that provides homemade blankets to children in need. Those blankets are lovingly made by adults and children from all walks of life and many different sources.

Omaha Northwest Kiwanis was just chartered at the end of November and is actively working to provide service of this nature.  Thanks to District Trustee, Lynda Henningsen and Lt. Governor, Joann Feller for their support and participation with this group.
