Milford Key Club Hosts Miss Nebraska - 01/20/2018

Members of the Milford, Nebraska Key Club greeted Miss Nebraska at a meeting of the Milford Kiwanis Club and Milford High School Key Club.  Allison Tietjen, of Chester, Nebaska was crowned Miss Nebraska in the summer of 2017.  Her talk to the group included her humble background growing up in a small town of 200 people.  This past year she has spent time raising money for Veteran Honor Flights to Washington D.C. as that passion came from knowing her grandfather served in WW II.  She reflected on the importance of service to others and being involved in your community.

District Key Club Assistant Administrator Cara Houk, Governor - elect Sue Waldren, and District Aktion Club Administrator Jim Brewer attended SLP (Service Leadership Program) training in Indianapolis. Also in attendance were District Builders Club


Administrator Jim Dane and District SLP Administrator Dan Voss. 

Each year, Kiwanis holds a training conference for District Administrators who are new or want updates as to how best to facilitate the Service Leadership Programs in those Districts.  Information on policy, youth protection guidelines, and reporting procedures are just part of this extensive two-day training. 

A Passion for Blood Donation - 01/07/2018

High school sweethearts Jack and Myrna Swanson have been supporters of NCBB and blood donation for many years. A little over 10 years ago they started donating platelets when their son-in-law, Mike, was diagnosed with cancer and needed platelets.

"My platelet count is usually between 280 and 320," Myrna said, who shows up every two weeks to donate a double. "Mike's platelet count would get down to 8. Without platelets there wasn't much hope."

Sadly, Mike lost his battle to cancer but Myrna still donates in his memory, saying, "it's a great thing to do, especially for retired people - you're never too old to give! Where else can you take a break, save a...

St. John's Builders Club Collects Clothes for People's City Mission - 01/02/2018

The Lincoln Northeast  Kiwanis Club sponsors the  St. John’s School  Builders Club.  The Builders conducted their annual coat drive from November 13-December 15.  The drive raised over six full trash bags of warm winter clothes for Peoples City Mission!  This couldn’t have been accomplished without the help of all the kids of St. John’s and the parishioners. Thanks to everyone who contributed to make sure others could stay warm!

Breakfast with Santa a Big Success - 01/02/2018

The annual Kearney Area Children's Museum Breakfast with Santa Fundraiser on December 2nd was a huge success.  Over 700 children and their families attending at the Buffalo Co. Fairgrounds enjoyed a Pancake and Sausage Breakfast provided by Kiwanis Clubs of Kearney.

Children had the opportunity to talk to Santa, but also enjoyed Christmas stories with Mrs. Claus, arts and crafts, train rides, bouncy houses and much more. This annual event is an important fundraiser for the Kearney Area Children's Museum who provides a great family learning environment for area kids.

NE-IA Announces New District Secretary - 12/30/2017

Nebraska-Iowa Kiwanis District Governor Jan Burch is pleased to announce Amber Patterson has been named the district's new secretary.  As the district secretary, Patterson will provide administrative support to the District Governor and the board of trustees. Patterson's duties include financial and administrative record keeping for the district as well as planning for district events and district-wide communication efforts.  She will begin her employment around the first of January.

$4000 Donated to Lincoln Food Bank Back Pack Program - 12/22/2017

Infant socks collected to be donated to Sewing for Babies - 12/22/2017

Capital City members collected 270 pairs of baby socks and a few baby caps donated to Sewing for Babies.  The socks are added to the layettes provided to families in need of these items.  Pictured are Cheryl Ross, Daryl Swanson and Sandi Lewis.
