The Eliminate Project

With The Eliminate Project, Kiwanis International and UNICEF have joined forces to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus. This deadly disease steals the lives of nearly 60,000 innocent babies and a significant number of women each year. The effects of the disease are excruciating — tiny newborns suffer repeated, painful convulsions and extreme sensitivity to light and touch.

To eliminate MNT from the Earth, more than 100 million mothers and their future babies must be immunized. This requires vaccines, syringes, safe storage, transportation, thousands of skilled staff and more. It will take US$110 million — and the dedicated work of UNICEF and every member of the Kiwanis family.

NE-IA Eliminate News

The ELIMINATION of Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus – Our contribution to the World

Lenora and Milford Hanna are now the advocates for the Eliminate Project in the Nebraska –Iowa District. A special thanks goes out to Governor Elect Jim Dane for his years of service as our District Coordinator and to the outstanding team of volunteers who have made our District a leader in raising funds to “eliminate” a torturous and deadly disease.

By now, many of you have heard that we have met our fund raising goal and that we all have until 2020 to fulfill our pledges. Thank you for your generosity, both as Kiwanis Clubs and as individuals! The reality is that we have a significant amount of our District pledge that is not covered.  I assume everyone knows that it was not our intent to use any of the Districts cash reserve to complete our pledge of $3.5 million. So, how will we make good on the pledge we made?

25 Alive Campaign

Would you pledge $45 this year to protect 25 mothers and their future babies?  Would you repeat that pledge for 5 years?  If 6 out of 10 of our members make such a personal commitment, we will be done.  Is this significant? YES, both from the standpoint of your financial resources and from the standpoint that we will have fulfilled out pledge to the world to “eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus”. And, yes, this would be on top of any outstanding pledge you or your club currently has.

We are hopeful that you see our “25 Alive” Campaign as a way for you to make a huge difference in the lives of some of the neediest people in the world, at the same $1.80 per person immunization rate.  To participate, please click to fill out a pledge: 25 Alive Pledge
